A Walk in the Forest
A few months ago I bought a small lapel microphone for my smartphone, which has since lain almost unused in a drawer. But now it has finally been used: I invite you to join me on a walk through the idyllic countryside of East Frisia.

I’m not entirely satisfied with the result. There are some background noises I can’t identify, and occasionally I can hear interference from mobile networks. On the positive side, however, no disturbing wind noise is audible — which was the main reason I bought an external microphone with a fluffy windscreen in the first place.
I edited the video using Shotcut. Since I have little experience with video editing, it took me a while to get familiar with the software. Fortunately, it ran stably and I found helpful tutorials online.
My next challenge was figuring out how to embed the video in this blog post. Unfortunately, Hugo natively only provides shortcodes for YouTube and Vimeo — two services I prefer not to use for various reasons. Initially, I considered hosting the video directly on my blog, but even at just four minutes in length, the file is a full 1.2 GB. If I plan to publish more videos occasionally, I’d quickly run into storage limitations.
I looked for PeerTube instances and eventually found one at adminForge. On Codeberg, I then discovered the Hugo PeerTube Shortcode, which makes it easy to embed the video directly here.
